Zoom H6 Six-Track Portable Recorder
When I started my podcast in 2016 I went through a few podcasts kits until I settled on this one. It’s durable, simple, and allows me to focus on the interview, not the electronics.
SanDisk 64GB Ultra SDXC UHS-I Memory Card
This is more than enough memory for audio.
3ft XLR Cable
I recommend buying three or four of them if you want the option of having multiple guests on your podcast.
Shure SM58-LC Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone
Again, I recommend buying three or four to have backups and the option for multi-guest interviews.
Moukey Microphone Covers Foam Handheld Mic Windscreen, Pack of 6, Black
These will help audio when people POP their P’s.
Sony MDR7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone
These are a little pricey, but they’re super comfortable and you’ll thank me when your head doesn’t hurt at the end of a two hour interview. I have two pairs and will always ask my guest to wear a set as well. It encourages the guest to speak more clearly into the mic when they can hear how they sound.
Headset Splitter Cable, Gold-Plated & Strong Braided Y Splitter
You’ll need this when you use more than one pair of headphones.
Audio-Technica AT2020USB PLUS Cardioid Condenser USB Microphone
I use this mic to record intros and outros. It plugs directly into my computer and I record into a timeline in Garageband. This saves time so I don’t need to pull a memory card out of the H6N, stick it in the computer, import the audio, blah, blah, blah. If you’re serious about podcasting anything that streamlines your process is worth the investment.
Patagonia 2018 Suitcase Organiser 25 cm
All of my podcast cords and mics stay organized in this bag.
Patagonia Black Hole 25L Backpack Hex Grey
Everything fits in this backpack. It’s water resistant which might not seem like a big deal until you get caught with your podcast gear in a South Pacific squall, then you’ll be stoked.
